If you’re experiencing pelvic pain, abnormal bleeding, or concerns about ovarian cysts, fibroids, or early pregnancy — waiting weeks for an NHS referral, then weeks more for a separate scan appointment, can feel overwhelming. At AristoGP, we offer same-day pelvic ultrasound combined with a full consultant gynaecology assessment, so your assessment can begin in a single visit.
Why Same-Day Matters
In the NHS pathway, a GP referral for gynaecology symptoms typically involves:
- A GP appointment (often a 2–3 week wait)
- A referral letter to a hospital gynaecology department
- A first outpatient appointment with a consultant (4–12 weeks)
- A separate ultrasound scan appointment (another 2–6 weeks)
- A follow-up appointment to discuss results
That’s potentially 3–5 months from first symptoms to diagnosis. During that time, anxiety builds and symptoms may worsen.
At AristoGP, the process is different. You book directly — no GP referral needed — and your consultation with a specialist consultant gynaecologist includes a pelvic ultrasound scan in the same appointment when clinically appropriate. Most patients leave with a clear understanding of their condition on the same day.
What Happens During Your Appointment
Your appointment with Dr Anastasia Mermigka, our consultant gynaecologist, typically follows this structure:
- Detailed consultation — Dr Mermigka will take a full medical and gynaecological history, discuss your symptoms, and understand your concerns. There is no time pressure.
- Clinical assessment — A physical examination if clinically appropriate, always with your consent and at your pace.
- Same-day pelvic ultrasound — Using our specialist high-resolution ultrasound ultrasound system, Dr Mermigka can perform a transvaginal and/or transabdominal scan during the same appointment. The specialist ultrasound is a specialist OB/GYN ultrasound system offering high-resolution 2D, 3D, and 4D imaging — the same technology used in NHS hospital gynaecology departments.
- Immediate findings — Dr Mermigka explains the ultrasound findings to you during the appointment, so you leave with clarity rather than waiting for a letter.
- Written report and plan — You receive a detailed written report after your visit, along with a personalised management plan.

Consultant-Led, Not GP-Led
An important distinction: at AristoGP, your ultrasound is performed and interpreted by a specialist consultant gynaecologist (Dr Mermigka, GMC 7640566), ensuring a fully integrated clinical assessment. This means:
- The scan is tailored to your specific symptoms and clinical picture
- Findings are interpreted in context by someone who can act on them immediately
- If further investigation is needed (e.g., blood tests, referral for procedures), it can be arranged during the same consultation
- There is no “middleman” between the person scanning you and the person making clinical decisions
Our Dedicated Gynaecology Environment
We believe the clinical environment matters — particularly for intimate examinations. Our clinic uses a dedicated gynaecology examination plinth (not a standard GP couch), designed specifically for women’s health assessments. It offers adjustable positioning for maximum comfort during both clinical examination and transvaginal ultrasound.

The clinic is located at 1-5 Portpool Lane, London EC1N 7UU — a 4-minute walk from Chancery Lane station. The environment is calm, private, and designed to put patients at ease.
Common Reasons for a Same-Day Pelvic Ultrasound
- Pelvic pain — to identify possible causes such as ovarian cysts, fibroids, or endometriosis
- Abnormal or irregular bleeding — including heavy periods, bleeding between periods, or postmenopausal bleeding
- Suspected PCOS — ultrasound is one of the key diagnostic tools for polycystic ovary syndrome
- Ovarian cyst monitoring — follow-up of previously identified cysts
- Fibroid assessment — sizing and location mapping for treatment planning
- Early pregnancy concerns — confirmation of intrauterine pregnancy, dating, and viability
- Fertility assessment — antral follicle count and uterine assessment
- Menopause symptoms — endometrial thickness assessment and ovarian evaluation
