When to Visit a Gynaecologist

Seeing a gynaecologist regularly is an important part of maintaining your overall health as a woman. Many people wait until they experience symptoms before seeking specialist care, but a gynaecology appointment can also be preventative and reassuring.

Routine Check-Ups
Most women benefit from a routine gynaecology check-up every 1–2 years, even when they feel perfectly well. These appointments allow your specialist to review your menstrual health, perform a pelvic examination if needed and discuss any concerns.

Irregular or Painful Periods
Changes to your period can signal hormonal imbalance or other underlying issues. You should book an appointment if you notice heavy bleeding, bleeding between periods, very painful periods or several months without a period.

Pelvic Pain or Discomfort
Persistent pelvic pain should never be ignored. Whether sharp or dull, occasional or constant, a gynaecologist can investigate the cause with an examination or ultrasound.

Unusual Vaginal Symptoms
Itching, burning, unusual discharge or a different odour can indicate infection or irritation. Avoid self-treating without proper diagnosis.

Menopause and Perimenopause
Hot flushes, night sweats, mood changes, vaginal dryness and irregular periods are common symptoms. A gynaecologist can provide personalised menopause support and treatment.

Fertility Concerns or Family Planning
If you’ve been trying to conceive for one year (or six months if over 35), it's recommended to see a specialist. Even if not trying to conceive, discussions about future fertility can be helpful.

After Pregnancy
Changes after childbirth, such as pelvic floor weakness, discomfort, or hormonal imbalance, are common. A gynaecologist can support recovery and provide reassurance.

When Something Feels Wrong
If your body doesn’t feel right—even if you can’t describe it clearly—seeing a specialist is the safest option. Many conditions are easier to treat when detected early.

Book a Consultation
If you are experiencing symptoms or simply wish to prioritise your health, a private gynaecology appointment can offer quick answers and personalised care.
