What is cervical screening?
A smear test (also known as cervical screening) is a simple and effective test used to help prevent cervical cancer. It involves collecting a small sample of cells from the cervix, which are then tested for Human Papillomavirus (HPV) and, if necessary, for abnormal cell changes. Detecting high-risk HPV or abnormal cells early allows for timely treatment, often preventing cancer from developing.
Before your cervical smear appointment
- Do not have a smear test during your period
- Avoid sexual intercourse, vaginal creams, pessaries or douching for 48 hours before
- Inform us if you are pregnant, have recently had treatment to the cervix, or have symptoms such as bleeding or pain

Cancellation Policy
Appointments may be cancelled or rescheduled with at least 24 hours’ notice. Cancellations made with less than 24 hours’ notice or non-attendance may be charged in full. Laboratory tests cannot be refunded once samples have been processed.
