Common questions
Endometriosis assessment in London
Can endometriosis be diagnosed without laparoscopy?
Often, yes. UK guidance recommends not delaying treatment while waiting for surgical confirmation when the clinical picture is sufficiently suggestive. Ultrasound identifies endometriomas and signs of deep disease, and the symptom history carries equal weight.
Does a normal ultrasound rule endometriosis out?
No. Superficial endometriosis is not visible on ultrasound. A normal scan narrows the possibilities but does not exclude the condition, which is why the consultation matters as much as the imaging.
Does the severity of pain reflect how extensive the disease is?
No. Minimal disease can be extremely painful and extensive disease can cause few symptoms. Treatment is guided by the impact on your life, not by the findings alone.
Will I need surgery?
Not necessarily. Many women are managed medically with anti-inflammatories and hormonal treatment. Surgery is considered for resistant symptoms or deep disease, and we provide a written referral to a specialist centre where it is indicated.
Does endometriosis cause infertility?
It can reduce fertility, but many women with endometriosis conceive naturally. If you are trying to conceive it is important to say so at the first appointment, because it changes which treatments are appropriate.
Do I need a GP referral?
No. If you are paying for yourself you can book directly, often the same day.
