Search for a private GP in London and you will find prices ranging from £60 for a rushed video call to £350 for a Harley Street consultation. The spread is confusing, and the cheapest and most expensive options are rarely the best value. Here is how the pricing actually works, and what you should expect to pay.
The consultation fee
A face-to-face private GP consultation in Central London typically costs £100–£250. At AristoGP it is £100 for a standard appointment. The main things that push prices higher elsewhere are postcode and brand rather than anything clinical — a W1 address costs the clinic more, and that reaches your invoice.
What matters more than the headline fee is what it includes. Ask three questions before booking anywhere: how long is the appointment, is a prescription or referral letter included or extra, and what do blood tests cost on top. A £80 consultation with a £40 letter fee and marked-up bloods is not cheaper than a £100 one with none of that.
What extras really cost
Typical add-ons across London clinics, and what we charge:
- Blood tests: from around £40–£50 for a basic panel elsewhere, often more. We take bloods on site during your appointment, so there is no second visit fee.
- Referral letters and sick notes: some clinics charge £25–£50; ours are included where clinically appropriate.
- Prescriptions: you pay the pharmacy for the medicine itself; the private prescription form should not carry a separate fee.
When a check-up makes more sense than a one-off visit
If what you actually want is reassurance about your general health rather than help with one symptom, a structured screen is usually better value than stacking tests onto a consultation. Is it worth it?
For a one-off problem — an infection, a worrying symptom, a letter you need quickly — £100 buys you a same-day, unhurried appointment with a private GP in Central London and results within days. Whether that is worth it depends on the problem, but it is a far smaller commitment than most people assume, and your NHS registration is unaffected either way.
